[caption id="attachment_371" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Rita"][/caption] I tend to stay in a different place each time I come to Patnem & there are all types of accommodation available, from simple thatched beach huts only a few feet away from the sea, little brick houses away from the beach & overlooking green paddy fields & luxurious cabins nestled in lush green jungle with all the mod cons that you’d expect from a hotel at home. This year I’m staying just behind the beach in a little room with a veranda overlooking a shady jungle garden.   Rita, who owns the rooms lives next door & her family have been living in Goa for generations.  Our room is simple & charming with a double bed (which is much comfier than the one in Gadag) plus mosquito net.  There is a small area to hang our clothes Goan style, which consists of a couple of bamboo poles suspended by a rope hanging from the ceiling.  There’s a table, shelves & a clean en suite bathroom - no hot water, but after a day on the beach a cold splash of water is exactly what you need.  On the downside, the rooms are attached to one another so it can be a bit annoying if you’ve got noisy neighbours, but this is true of most places you’ll stay at on the beach. Rita has 4 rooms available – 3 double en-suite rooms & one family room with 2 double beds, en suite bathroom & kitchen facilities. She supplies with you towels, sheets & if you ask, a blanket, as the temperature does seem to drop in the middle of the night.   She also owns a little shop on the beach, so if you need water, toothpaste, loo roll, sunscreen or incense (handy for getting rid of the mosquito’s), then she’ll put them in your room for you. It’s a lovely place to stay, much quieter than staying right on the beach, it has a great family feel & Rita really does look after you - which is especially nice if you’re travelling on your own. The setting is beautiful & it’s only a 20 second walk to the sea.   Rita’s Place, Behind Home, Patnem Beach, Goa - 0091 97 6567 6735
