Pig headed determination & a bit of luck

Technically, I'm currently meant to be on a plane winging my way to sunny, balmy, Southern India.  Instead, I've spent the day furiously cycling around London, which definitely isn't sunny, nor balmy - in fact, it's absolutely freezing, trying to sort out my visa so I can get out to India & start production on the new range of Marzipants.

4 months ago, (to the dismay of my poor mother), I left my well paid, super stressful, media job as production manager on BBC 1's New Tricks to launch Marzipants.  Although I was climbing the corporate ladder rather quickly, working on some amazing projects & getting closer & closer to my ambition of being a producer, there was something missing.  There was this niggling feeling that it was all a bit pointless, I felt like a hamster on a never ending wheel & my twenties were flying by.

It had always been a very far fetched dream of mine to work on Marzipants full time & to grow it into a proper business, but never in a million years did I think that I'd actually have the guts to do it.  I don't know what finally made me take the plunge - whether it was having to put up with yet another hissy fit at work, another 12 hour day in the office, or whether it was the encouragement from my lovely boyfriend to follow my dreams.  But one day I decided that life was too short not to give things a go, so without any forward planning or thinking, I packed in my job, sold my car, sold the few designer clothes & shoes I had, moved in with my boyfriend & started furiously designing the new range.  It is a huge learning curve & I'm loving every second of it.  I still can't quite believe that it's real, that I'm sitting here writing a blog, that I've got a visa in my passport & that at the end of this week I'll be in India on "business" making samples of my new trousers!

The idea of this blog is to share my experiences, to offer an insight into my world as I attempt to set up an ethical, fair trade, fashion brand & to (hopefully) show that with a lot of hard work, none of the right experience, pig headed determination & a bit of luck, it's possible to do anything you want......... And if the above fails I promise to copy you in on the grovelling messages I'll have to write to my old bosses, begging for my old job back, which might be vaguely amusing?!
